Wilmington, N.C. (WECT) - Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) Economic and Workforce Development division is expanding its Landscaping and Horticulture courses.
According to CFCC, the courses are designed to give students hands-on skill ideal for careers in landscaping, gardening, and horticultural services.
The following courses are available at CFCC:
- Horticulture Pest Management: Prepares students for the North Carolina Pesticide Ground Applicators License exam.
- Landscape Construction: Covers essential techniques for building and maintaining outdoor landscapes.

- Plant Materials: Introduces students to plant identification, selection, and care practices for successful landscape design.
Students who study Landscape Gardening and Horticulture Sciences can go into the following careers:
- Landscaping and Groundskeeping, with an average median wage of $17/hr, with an estimated growth projection of 8% over the next 10 years.
- Supervisors of Landscaping and Groundskeeping, median wage of $24/hr., with an estimated growth projection of 9% over the next 10 years.
- Pesticide Handlers, Sprayers, and Vegetation, with a median wage of 20/hr, with an estimated growth projection of 12% over the next 10 years.
Other students have explored careers in floral design, farming, ranching, fishing and forestry.
Each course is 16 weeks long and costs $190.
