A man has been taken into custody after he entered the parking lot of the Sampson County Sheriff's Office and threatened to "kill law enforcement officers" Tuesday morning, according to deputies.
Shortly after 7 a.m., deputies said 47-year-old Jed Hanningan walked onto the parking lot of the Sampson County Sheriff's Office and began making verbal threats indicating his intent to kill officers.

Deputies on the scene quickly confronted him, when he then fled into his car and barricaded himself inside.
They said Hanningan refused to comply, resulting in a nearly two-hour standoff with him and officers. He ultimately surrendered and was taken into custody.
Hanningan was charged with two felony counts of assault on a government official with a deadly weapon.
He was also charged on two counts of communicating threats, one count of resisting, delaying and obstructing a public officer, one count of possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance and one county of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Hanningan is still being processed, therefore a bond has not yet been set.
The investigation is ongoing, and no injuries were reported.
