On May 1, Lee County Sheriff deputies arrested a man after he led them on a chase while carrying drugs and guns in his car.

Deputies attempted to stop Christopher Tyson, 35, for a moving violation in NC-87.

Tyson led police on a chase and drove behind a gas station where his car became stuck. 

Police arrested Tyson and searched his car. They found fentanyl, cocaine, and marijuana. Dempsey, a Lee County K9 searched the area and found a handgun Tyson threw from the vehicle. 

Tyson is facing the following charges:

  • Two counts trafficking fentanyl
    • Two counts trafficking cocaine 
      • Possession of a firearm by a felon
        • Possess with intent to sell and deliver fentanyl 
          • Possess with intent to sell and deliver cocaine
            • Possess with intent to sell and deliver marijuana 
              • Possession of drug paraphernalia 
                • Maintaining a vehicle for sale of controlled substance 
                  • Felony flee to elude arrest 
                    • Operating vehicle with no insurance 
                      • Reckless driving
                        • Resisting public officer 
                          • Driving while license revoked
                            • Driving left of center Unsafe movement

                              Tyson has pending charges in two other counties. In January, he was charged with felony possession of cocaine in Harnett County. He also faces charges for forgery and obtaining property under false pretense in Randolph County from an October 2024 arrest. 

                              He is being held at the Lee County Courthouse with no bond.
