One person was injured in a shooting that occurred in a neighborhood off Kay Drive in Smithfield Monday afternoon.
Neighbors and police cars filled the block as officers investigated reports of a shooting after they found the injured person at a nearby gas station. The person was transported to WakeMed and is reported to be in stable condition.

A silver car was found nearby on Brightleaf Boulevard with at least one apparent bullet hole in it.
Selma Police found a car matching the description of the one leaving Smithfield. Officers would not confirm that it was the suspect's car, but it did match the description of the one authorities were looking for.
Neighbors told WRAL that violence in the neighborhood is not unusual. Several said they want "out."
