Winston-Salem Police mourns officer who died after illness

A 22-year veteran of the Winston-Salem Police Department has died, according to WXII news.

Master Police Officer Rayvonia Hawkins died over the weekend after battling a critical illness. MPO Hawkins served with the WSPD for 22 years.

Hawkins founded the Pups Against Crime Program. She also brought the Paw Patrol Program to the WSPD, which fostered a unique bond between law enforcement and children.

She spent a number of years helping to lead the Citizens Police Academy, helping those in the community.

MPO Hawkins leaves behind a legacy of compassion, service, and love over the city of Winston-Salem.
