Wilson County man accused of raping young child

A Wilson County man facing a child rape charge appeared in court on Tuesday.

According to arrest warrants, 29-year-old Kyaun Tyrell Peppers is accused of statutory rape of a child by an adult after an offense report was filed by the Cary Police Department on Aug. 27.

Investigators said the victim was an 8-year-old, and the incident happened in May. 

Authorities arrested Peppers on Sept. 1. He appeared in court Tuesday for a hearing and was denied bond. His next hearing is scheduled for Sept. 23.

Officials with the YMCA of the Triangle said Peppers was recently hired at A.E. Finley YMCA in North Raleigh for a part-time position and had worked three days in supervised training, saying he did not conduct any personal training sessions at the YMCA. He has been placed on leave, and the

YMCA said the charge was not related to them:

"The YMCA of the Triangle maintains zero tolerance for all forms of child abuse, neglect or exploitation. We are aware of the allegations against a part-time personal trainer who was recently hired at the A.E. Finley YMCA after passing all YMCA of the Triangle pre-employment background checks.

He worked three days in supervised training and did not conduct any personal training sessions. The charges are not related to the YMCA. Upon learning of the allegations, he was immediately placed on leave. The safety and well-being of our members, participants and staff remains our top priority. All YMCA staff are required to undergo background and reference checks," the YMCA said.
